Barfly: A surprisingly entertaining portrayal of L.A. lowlife, and boozy, recklessly macho author Henry Chinaski, played with bravado by Rourke. Dunaway is magnificent as his alcoholic soul mate. Based on the autobiographical writings of cult top choice Charles Bukowski, who might be noticed on one of the bar stools. Cast includes Mickey Rourke, Faye Dunaway, Alice Krige, Jack Nance, J.C. Hail Mary: An uninteresting, overblown updating of the tale of Christ’s birth, with Mary a student basketball competitor! Even though still a virgin, she finds herself pregnant. House of the Dead: This is a low-grade terror film, based on the video game, which charts the predictable destinies of some addle brained youngsters drawn to an island inhabited by zombies. Sloppily made and mind numbingly inept. Cast includes Jonathan Cherry, Tyron Leitso, Clint Howard, Ona Grauer, Ellie Cornell, Can Sanderson, and Enuka Okuma. (92 minutes, 2003)

Patty Hearst: A dramatization of the newspaper heiress’s abduction and succeeding brainwashing by the Symbionese Liberation Army. The movie never recovers from a painful first half hour that tries to express, from Hearst?s point of view, the effects of the mental suffering she is put through. Cast includes Natasha Richardson, William Forsythe, Ving Rhames, Dana Delany, Frances Fisher, Jodi Long, and Olivia Barash. (108 minutes, 1988)

The Stalking Moon: An army scout helps a white female who has lived with the Apaches flee from the Indians with her half breed child. Then the boy’s Indian dad comes after them. The film is a convincing and fascinating Western that is both smooth and boring. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Eva Marie Savior, Robert Forster, Noland Clay, Russell Thorson, and Frank Silvera. (109 minutes, 1969)

A Face in the Rain: The movie is a tense melodrama with Calhoun as a U.S. espionage agent being concealed in Italy by a local anti-Nazi who?s the mistress of a German officer. This is a WW2 drama. Cast includes Rory Calhoun, Marina Berti, Niall MacGinnis, and Massimo Giuliani. (91 minutes, 1963)
