The idea that die cast model cars are valuable collectors items is probably true, since they have been classed as collectibles since the 1930s. In 1934, Dinky Toys brought out die cast metal toy cars, which presumably parents brought for little boys, who grew up to be men who still liked the cars, and turned play into collecting.
Anyway, contrast these collectibles with Beanie Babies, which turned out to be a fad. Nowadays you see them mainly in thrift shops, not in display cases or mounted on lamp stands. You do see die cast cars in thrift shops, but they are segregated and individually priced, not thrown in with other small toys as the cute little baby animals are.
Why collect car models? Well, why collect anything? You either get it or you don’t. But collecting these little (3″) or not so little cars (10″ – 12″) does make sense to a lot of people. To begin with, they may have started as toys, but they soon developed in to scale models, or miniaturized representations of actual vehicles. They are true to life in proportion and detail, thereby rising above the toy level to the distinction of true models.
Die cast cars have traditionally been made of metal of one sort of another, or a combination of metals, forced into a mold while molten, with much pressure to fill the mold and to allow the metal to harden. Today you can also have die cast (or diecast, since the terms are used interchangeably) plastic cars. The metal ones are the collectible ones of choice, it seems, although early plastics have definitely become collectible, so who knows?
The models are still being enthusiastically made, and the age of the model does not seem to automatically raise the price. As in the original, actual car, the appeal is in the eye of the beholder. A model car may be a remembrance, of the VW bug that was your first car, of the memories that are aroused by the sight of a 1969 Mustang convertible, or of sitting on the floor watching the General Lee fulfill all your six-year old ideas of what a car could do.
It may also be as close as you will ever get to owning a Ferrari, say, or a Lamborghini. If you really always wanted one, somebody is sure to give you a model for Christmas sooner or later. If you really rate, it may be a premium model with doors that open, a steering wheel that turns not only itself but the wheels as well, and a working suspension. If your friends really get carried away, they may get you one with a working internal combustion engine, although they are venturing close to the toy line here.
As in all collecting, it is wise to focus. You may want to start with police cars, with all the versions of the Batmobile, with cars from famous movies, or from the era of history that interests you most. The choice of models in all these categories and more is very large, and there are many manufacturers who used to and/or are still making these small vehicles.
It can turn into a hobby, too; you may want to put your cars into display cases and hang them on the wall, but you may want to restore them, airbrushing on bright, glossy colors, or set them in dioramas with little, die cast gangsters or carhops or service men just the right scale to match.
Anyway, model cars are valuable collectors items – valuable in terms of the fun of it all if not in the investment possibilities.
Model cars aren’t just for kids. Die cast models cars on classic cars are treasures of our past.

Most youngsters are captivated by the sight of a real train once they get to see one up close and personal. Whether or not it is simply waiting for one to pass by a railroad crossing, it stirs a sense of excitement. It does not matter whether or not it is a girl or a boy, a child can almost always be entranced by a passing train.
There are many stories and programs that lend trains to the creative minds of kids. Most people can recall reading The Little Engine that Could. This is a timeless story about a locomotive that kept pushing itself to reach the top of the mountain regardless of all the chances being against it. This is a nice story to encourage kids from a young age to never give up because they can do anything they put their minds to. Thomas the Train has become a terribly popular icon for children these days. This fun blue train can be found in books and on TV. Thomas the Train is an interactive program that encourages children to discover valuable skills including counting and reading. There are educational learning opportunities including oral hygiene and getting along with others.
Several adult collectors of train memorabilia found their interest in trains during their childhood years. It is a logical next step for kids who love trains to grow and develop their appreciation for railroad collectibles.
For young children today, there are a multitude of trains and railroad building kits available. For terribly young youngsters, plush dolls might be a wonderful introduction to trains. As they grow, perhaps some sort of interactive, talking train may fit the bill.
Adults and older kids usually become more serious concerning their train collecting and even come to appreciate their value as a collectible item. Train sets will be set up and played with for countless hours of fun. Every set will be designed and designed up to fulfill the interests of the person doing the building.
If there is a child in your life who loves to look at or read about trains, you may want to introduce them to their 1st train kit. Depending on the child, you will or may not want to include them in selecting the sort of train they can receive as a gift.
Several times, collectors of toy trains and railroad memorabilia have fully no intention of ever selling the collections which they have built. For whatever reason, trains seem to be one collectible that commonly gets passed from one generation to the next. Even trains which hold very little financial value, are typically passed on as valuable treasures simply based on robust sentimental connections to the toy.
Some children could choose to pursue their love of trains into adulthood and be able to turn it into a career that they love. If you’re looking for a present for a kid that can not just get pushed into a corner and forgotten, consider having a look around for a quality train set. You might be the one they bear in mind for helping them to start a favorite collection.

If current sales returns are anything to go by then Zhu Zhu pets could well be the hot selling toy in the run up to Christmas 2009. Basically, these are a collection of five motorized hamsters which interact both with the kids and each other.
The five different Zhu Zhu hamsters – Mr. Squiggles, Chunk, Pipsqueak, Num Nums and Patches – all have their own separate personalities and individual character traits. They operate in two modes “nurturing” and “exploring”. The first four are all available individually, but Patches can only be bought as part of the “Hamster Starter Set”.
The hamsters respond to petting and cuddling when in nurturing mode by making various noises. There are a total of forty different sounds used across all the hamsters and each one has their own individual sound.
The hamsters like to run around when they are in exploring mode. They can either roam freely on a hard floor surface or explore their special hamster habitats. The habitats include things like tubes, tracks, sleeping areas, toys and games and these can be taken apart and then put back together again in various different combinations.
There are a wide variety of different accessories available. There’s a hamster funhouse, hamster wheel and tunnel (of course), hamster garage, adventure ball, surfboard, skateboard, sleep dome, hamster carrier and blanket etc. It’s a long list of toys.
Children seem to love these little furballs. They are cute, they interact and the process of designing and building the hamster habitats in various different forms will stimulate their imagination and make sure that they don’t become bored.
One of the marketing slogans for Zhu Zhu hamsters is “pets without the mess” – and that’s a definite bonus for many parents. There’s no need to feed them, no need to keep their water bowl topped up and no need to clean out their cage. A couple of AAA batteries from time to time is all the maintenance that will be required.
Because they are motorized and contain small parts, the Zhu Zhu Pets are not ideal for very small children. The target age group is from four to ten years of age.
These toys are selling like hot cakes right now. They look like this year’s Christmas bestseller. So, if you want to give one as a gift this year, then get your order in well in advance to avoid disappointment.

What is the importance of the product name in an advertising and marketing campaign? It’s not an easy question to answer, but based on one currently popular product it does seem to have a significant impact on sales figures.
If you visit the Amazon website and check out the bestseller list in the Toys and Games category you will find that Zhu Zhu pets, or their accessories, currently hold eight out of the top ten positions. Zhu Zhu pets are basically cute little motorized hamsters which incorporate artificial intelligence so that they can interact with children.
As well as the actual hamsters, there is a wide selection of hamster environments and toys which kids can arrange in a variety of different configurations for their little robo-pets. It’s not too hard to see why children in the target age range – between 4 and 10 years old – are going crazy for these little furballs. They are cute and furry – and they make cute little noises when they’re petted and stroked. They respond to stimuli from their environment and their hamster habitats – tracks, toys and tubes – can be disassembled and put back together again in various different arrangements.
There are plenty of plus points looking at these hamsters from the parents viewpoint as well. There’s no requirement to feed and water robo hamsters, and no need to clean out their cage either. They don’t need a sitter if you’re going away for the weekend. The most onerous task is replacing a couple of AAA batteries every now and again.
So it’s no surprise that, despite being launched only at the back end of August, the Zhu Zhu pets are a such big hit with both parents and children. They may even be this year’s Xmas top selling toy if sales hold their current levels.
But it’s a different story on the other side of the Atlantic. Zhu Zhu Pets are still being sold as Go Go hamsters in the UK – and they aren’t seeing anything like the same volume of sales that is currently in evidence in the USA.
Cepia, the company who market the Zhu Zhu hamsters in the USA, have done a great job of rebranding and promoting these toys. After a successful local test launch in the Phoenix area, these toys have been flying off the shelves since their national launch in August. Prices are starting to edge upwards as demand outstrips supply. In fact, as long as stocks hold out, it really is difficult to imagine what toy might displace these for the coveted Christmas number one slot.

Every house needs a bunch of tools whether the owners like to do their own repairs or not. If you want to save some money on tools, here are a few tips for you.
Yard sales and flea markets always have tools, but the best place to find the nicest brands is probably when someone is moving. There are times when they just want to buy another set and that’s your chance to save.
Salvaged tools aren’t as bad as they sound. Since tools are, at the core of it, just a piece of metal, even very old merchandise can work great as long as they are build with quality.
It also pays to watch for household auctions. Most people bid on large items or artwork, so tools can be gotten at a premium. Also, church rummage sales usually have a large selection of used tools at minimal prices.
Don’t forget that department stores and hardware stores have periodic sales. Especially during the holidays, they usually have amazing deals for everything and that includes tools.
Shopping channels are always a no-no because the quality is usually not great and the price is high. They may do a good job with advertising, but they usually don’t put in the same effort with the product itself.
Some subtle scratch and nicks can ruin electrical equipment and also be dangerous for the user. When you buy, make sure there’s a good return policy.
If you always know where the sales are, you must agree that it will be very easy to buy tools. The way to know is to always be looking for sales, even if you aren’t in the position to buy.
Name brand manufacturers may seem expensive but since they last for years, they are the better deal. Make sure to get something with solid construction.
Used equipment needs more careful selection. make sure they are well maintained and avoid anything that has rusted. Remember, you still need to use them for years after you buy them.
Those are nice Overstock coupon you got there? You must save many people lots of money.

If you listen to the experts you learn two things. First, lack of exercise is a problem in our society. We spend too much time sitting in front of the TV, behind our desks, in the car, on the couch, or even at a restaurant. Even though sitting is not a completely bad thing, the problem is we just plain do too much of it. That’s why we’re all getting fat.
It seems that in our modern world, we just don’t move around like we used to. We should spend more time running, jogging or even walking. We should be taking more stairs and less escalators. The American Cancer Society reported recently that people who don’t exercise are endangering their health just as much as people who smoke! Not only that, but people who don’t exercise–even a small amount–are twice as likely to get heart disease as people who exercise.
Back in the early 60’s there were large numbers of people walking or jogging. It was quite a fad to see how far you could walk in a day. People would walk as much as 20, 25 or 30 miles in a day. And the newspapers would write articles about it! Even back then, our country was worried that we were sitting around and getting flabby. No one expects us to walk 30 miles today, but it we be good if we did something simple like play an outdoor family game together.
The same experts that tell us we’re getting fat, also tell us that even a small amount of exercise each day has a physically beneficial effect. That’s one reason that outdoor family games are becoming so popular. They are reasonably within reach of even the most tight-fisted consumer, plus they are a good way to add some exercise to our daily routine.
BlongoBall is one game that is becoming increasingly popular all across the nation. It’s easy to set up and fun to play. You don’t need any particular athletic ability so it’s suitable for all ages from grade schoolers to Grandpa and Grandma.
BlongoBall is played by tossing a bolo made from two golf balls at either end of a length of rope in such a way that it will wrap around the horizontal rungs of a “ladder” type goal. It’s easy and fun and anyone can play.
There are many BlongoBall imitators in the “toss it, wrap it, score” game category. BlongoBall is the original and our favorite. We’ve tested most all of these types of games and our preference is for BlongoBall because it is the only one we think is built to last. Some of the cheap imitations broke almost immediately, so be careful when buying a game if this type.
Secondly, the experts say that we’re not spending enough time together as families. While being with your family may not be part of your weight loss plan unless they cause you to lose your appetite, we are encouraged to be together as families as part of establishing healthy family relationships. Our family together time shouldn’t be just for doing the chores around the house, but parent should go out of their way to make family time a fun time.
This is a natural place for outdoor family games to fit into the routine. Most families will have a great time with a game that’s as easy and fun to play as BlongoBall. Even temperamental teenagers can easily become interested in game that’s a little challenging but not demanding a tremendous amount of skill.
We especially like BlongoBall because it’s easy to talk and interact with each other while playing. It doesn’t require intense concentration but is still demanding enough to maintain the interest of the whole family. Players of all ages and skill levels will want to play. In addition, you can purchase soft rubber ball sets to use indoors, so BlongoBall can be played all year long–even when there’s snow outside!
If you want to be in better shape both physically and emotionally, get your family together for a few games of BlongoBall. It works!
Craig Mecham is a marketing consultant during the work day and a father of six in real life. His family is an ideal test market for outdoor family games. Nothing is allowed to interfere with their BlongoBall tournaments!

Deciding what toys to buy for the loved children in their lives is often not an easy decision for parents and grandparents to make. With such a variety of toys available on the market, it is easy to understand how it can become overwhelming.
There are toys that talk, dolls that wet their diapers, and computer games that claim to make kids smarter. Yet, even with all these high tech options, it is still the simple things that children return to again and again.
Why is that? Well, because the very fact that modern toys can do more that traditional ones means that they leave less to a childs imagination – and all children love to use their imagination. A robot toy that has lots of flashing lights and which responds to basic voice commands has a limited scope for enjoyment. After the child has pressed all of the buttons on it, and got it to walk, turn around and stop, it becomes a case of “What do I do with it now?”. On the otherhand, the cardboard box that the robot came in, simple as it may seem to adult eyes, can be imagined by a child to be a spaceship, which they can have all kind of adventures in.
Those toys which stand the test of time, you will find to be the ones that can be played with differently each time a child gets them out. Some examples are blocks, boring dolls, dress up clothes, and child safe face paint and make up. They are using the same toy each time, but each session can have a wildly different theme, or even no theme at all.
My kids, even though I have a boy and a girl, want to turn everything into a sword. They assume the role of whatever takes their fancy at the time, with pirates, ninjas and superheros being particular favorites. Countless times the toys they practically begged me for last weekend have been deserted whilst they run around the garden with tree branches in hand trying to take each others ‘treasure’.
That leads to a warning about using imaginative kids toys. They can potentially get violent. So as with everything, keep watch over the kids so things so no one loses an eye. The lack of boundaries on their imaginations can soon have them defending their turf from imaginary invaders, or toppling huge stacks of blocks, or trying to paint the cat like a skunk. Be warned, once these little imaginations get going, they really, really take off.
For small babies, make sure the baby toys are soft. Even little babies will close a fist around objects placed in the palm. They don’t have the motor control, however, to keep from hitting themselves in the face and body with their flailing arms. So be sure the baby will not harm itself with the toy by making sure it is soft, and does not have hard parts like buttons or eyes.
I hope you’ve started thinking about all the kids toys you can get for your kids that will set their imaginations free.
Didis is the toy store and toy shop that has the best toys and plush animals for all your gift needs!
